MEET VERONICA

I am running for the New Mexico House because I believe District 30 deserves leadership rooted in lived experience, real work, and real results.

I am a New Mexican with deep generational roots in this state. I was shaped here. I built my life here. I am raising my four children here. My family’s future is tied to the future of Albuquerque.

My story is not one of privilege. I grew up facing hardship and instability, including periods without permanent housing. I know what it feels like to struggle. I also know what it feels like when a community shows up. Neighbors, mentors, and everyday New Mexicans helped change the trajectory of my life. That experience drives everything I do.

Today, I am a civil defense attorney representing healthcare providers, small businesses, and tradespeople who serve our communities every day. I see firsthand how state policy affects whether doctors stay, whether clinics remain open, and whether local businesses survive.

Healthcare Access Is Personal

New Mexico is losing providers. Families are waiting months for care. Seniors are driving hours to see a specialist. Women are struggling to find OB-GYN services. When healthcare disappears, communities become less stable, less safe, and less prosperous.

I have already been fighting for access to care, including advocacy surrounding HB99 and efforts to create a balanced system that protects patients without driving providers out of our state. We can protect patients and ensure accountability without pushing more providers out of New Mexico. We must create a system where care is available and communities remain strong.

Healthcare is not separate from other issues. It is connected to economic opportunity, education, and public safety.

Public Safety and Accountability

Families deserve to feel safe in their homes, schools, and neighborhoods. I support law enforcement officers who serve with integrity. I also believe accountability is essential. That means investing in mental health and addiction treatment, strengthening our justice system, and removing bad actors who violate public trust. Safety and accountability go hand in hand.

Opportunity That Stays Here

As a mother of four children, ages 20, 17, 16, and 12, I understand the pressures families face. Rising housing costs, grocery prices, and uncertainty about the future weigh heavily on parents.

Our kids deserve strong schools and real options. College should be available. The trades should be respected and supported. Starting a business should be possible. We must align education with workforce opportunity so our children can build their futures here in New Mexico, not feel forced to leave.

Leadership Rooted in Community

I am not running to make speeches. I am running to solve problems.

I believe government has a responsibility to protect families, ensure public safety, stabilize healthcare access, and create conditions where small businesses and working families can thrive. I also believe leadership requires balance, courage, and the willingness to do the hard work.

District 30 deserves serious leadership. I am ready to serve.

Join us. Vote Veronica.

LET'S GET TO WORK

"If you believe healthcare access matters, if you believe families deserve safety and opportunity, and if you believe leadership should be grounded in real experience and real work, I am asking for your vote and your support.”

01

HEALTHCARE

ACCESS

Mireles has been an outspoken advocate for stabilizing New Mexico’s healthcare system and ensuring families can actually access care when they need it. In her work as a civil defense attorney, she represents healthcare providers, small businesses, and tradespeople who serve New Mexico communities every day, giving her firsthand insight into how policy decisions affect whether services remain available at all.

“We are losing doctors. Clinics are closing. Seniors are waiting months, sometimes years, for care they need. Women are struggling to find OB-GYN care. Families are traveling out of their own communities just to see a specialist. When healthcare disappears because of our legislature's inaction, everything else begins to unravel,”

02

PUBLIC

SAFETY

“Public safety is foundational.  We must support law enforcement who serve with integrity, invest in mental health services and addiction treatment, and ensure accountability in the justice system. Families deserve safety and stability.”

03

LEADERSHIP

ROOTED IN

COMMUNITY

“I know what it feels like to struggle. I know what it feels like to be overlooked. And I know what it feels like when someone shows up for you.  I am from here. I am raising my family here. I have already been fighting for healthcare access here. Now I am asking for the opportunity to fight for District 30 at the Roundhouse.”

Why I’m Endorsing Democrat Veronica Mireles By Senator Martin Hickey, M.D.

There is a moment in Veronica Mireles’ life that has stayed with me.

She was 14 years old, walking out of a doctor’s office after finally receiving treatment for a rare ocular disorder that left her legally blind for much of her childhood. And for the first time ever she saw leaves on a tree.

Veronica grew up without the stability every child deserves. She experienced homelessness. She lived in a vehicle. She was enrolled in more than a dozen elementary schools. The safety nets that should have protected her simply were not there.

Today, she is an attorney, a mother of four and a partner in a regional law firm. She built a life not defined by hardship, but by what she did in response to it. That kind of grit cannot be manufactured. It is earned. And it is exactly the kind of strength we need in the New Mexico Legislature.

I have spent my career as a physician and as a state senator working on issues that affect whether New Mexicans can live with security, dignity and opportunity. I know how urgently our state needs leaders who understand that policy is not abstract. It shows up in the exam room, in the workplace, at the kitchen table and in the lives of children who are waiting for someone to notice they need help.

Veronica understands that because she has lived it.

As a physician, I am especially proud to support her because she understands the health care crisis facing New Mexico. Families across our state know how hard it can be to find a doctor, get an appointment, access a specialist or receive care close to home. Too many communities are living with a system stretched beyond its limits.

Veronica has fought for health care providers and understands that access to care depends on whether we can recruit and retain the professionals who serve our families. She also understands that health care does not exist in a vacuum. Public safety, economic opportunity, strong schools, fair workplaces and access to care are all connected.

As an attorney, Veronica has defended health care providers, union members, small businesses and working New Mexicans. She knows how systems work, where they break down and how to stand up for people when the stakes are high.

That is why her campaign has earned support from the Greater Albuquerque Medical Association, the Albuquerque Police Officers Association, the New Mexico Hispanic Bar Association and multiple labor unions. These endorsements come from people who understand the work, the pressure and the consequences of getting it wrong.

But for me, this endorsement is about more than a great résumé. It is about character.

Veronica Mireles knows what it means when systems fail. She knows what it means when a child needs help and help does not come. She knows what it means to fight your way forward, not with privilege or ease, but with discipline, intelligence and determination.

House District 30 deserves a representative with that kind of backbone.

I strongly endorse Veronica Mireles for state representative and urge voters to support her in the June 2 Democratic primary.
